Julien is wearing creepers. They were very popular in the US and in UK in the 50's with the rise of Rockabilly and Teddy Boys, just like quiffs and straight cut trousers. They come in three different soles more or less thick. The 1.96" inches are the widest. The original creepers were designed by George Cox, the other ones are licensed copies.
